On Friday 4th July 2014, the famous author Bill Bryson visited our children's hospital. We showed him around the Royal London Hospital, the Children's Hospital (see picture), the Royal London Hospital museum, St Bartholomew's Hospital, the Great Hall and the Barts museum. He was very impressed with the hospital and all its facilities. He offered to have a closer affiliation with us as a unit in all our philanthropic and charitable activities. It was a great day, culminating in a wonderful talk on 'Bear Attacks and the Perfect Doctor' given by Bill at our annual Royal London Hospital Orthopaedic and Trauma Society (RLHOTS) meeting.
eva ponten visit
Eva Ponten, Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital, Karolinska Institute and Hospital, Sweden, with an interest in the upper limb and cerebral palsy, visited our new state-of-the-art Barts and The London Children's Hospital at the Royal London site on Wednesday 15th January 2014. She spent the day sitting in on neuromuscular, DDH and talipes clinics and visiting all our facilities. She was particularly impressed with our informatics drive to be completely paperless in clinics and theatres.
She kindly said, "Thank you so much for a very rewarding visit! You have done some really good and innovative new ways of documenting patient visits and documentation of surgeries. That is something that is so logical, but I haven't till now heard about it being set into action anywhere else. A true inspiration for our new Karolinska Hospital!'
Here she is visiting our children's orthopaedic ward's outdoor garden and relaxation area for children with Kyle James and Manoj Ramachandran.
Manoj Ramachandran along with Professor David Little from the Department of Orthopaedics at the Children’s Hospital Westmead (Sydney) visited the research group in Aarhus, Denmark for discussions on research and planning of future collaborations on Friday July 5th 2013. The picture is from another group's experiment taking place that day in the lab at Skejby, Aarhus which Manoj and David visited during their day there.
Professors David Little (Sydney, Australia) and Charles Mehlman (Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) attended our grand rounds on 18 June 2013 held at St Barholomew's Hospital. The varied and fantastic program is attached below. A great educational day was organised followed by a fun dinner where more ideas were exchanged. Here are Professors Little (first from left) and Mehlman (second from right) with Manoj Ramachandran (second from left) and Arun Ranganathan (first from right).
